Personal Growth offers students a powerful opportunity to pause, reflect, and integrate what they have learned throughout the No Me Without Community unit. Grounded in Ethnic Studies and SEL, this lesson supports students in recognizing identity as dynamic—shaped over time through relationships, practice, and community care.

Designed for grades 3–5, this 35-minute lesson centers a read aloud of More-igami by Dori Kleber, using the story as a mirror for students’ own journeys of learning and becoming. Through partner turn-and-talks and guided discussion, students explore themes of patience, perseverance, and the role of others in personal growth.

Students then revisit their personal timelines, Learning Logs, and Mind Maps from earlier lessons, revising and expanding their timelines to reflect a deeper understanding of self. Educators guide students in naming who has supported them, what assets they have developed, and how their identities have evolved through community connection.

The lesson closes with collective reflection and celebration, reinforcing that growth is ongoing and that no one develops in isolation.
