By combining writing, research, and organizing, students learn that advocacy is a practice of agency and collective responsibility.

Rooted in WAESN’s Ethnic Studies Framework, this bundle highlights the themes of Action & Reflection, Power & Oppression, and Identity & Agency, supporting students in connecting personal experience to public voice. Through real-world writing, community issues, and project-based learning, this collection helps educators make civics and literacy culturally relevant and transformative.

This bundle includes:

  • Washington State Civics — A justice-centered civics unit focused on student voice and education policy

  • Argument Writing Mini-Unit — A step-by-step guide to writing persuasive essays tied to activism and advocacy

  • Informational Writing Unit — A research-based literacy unit focused on social issues and action projects
