Description
The Save Denny Blaine mini-unit, part of the Washington State Civics Ethnic Studies curriculum, invites students to examine collective action through a real-world advocacy case study centered on LGBTQ+ rights. Designed for grades 9–12, this multi-day lesson integrates historical analysis, critical reflection, and civic engagement.
Students explore the difference between individual and collective action, study examples of successful community campaigns, and develop their own advocacy proposals using the IACP Take Action Toolkit. Rooted in WAESN’s Elements of Liberation framework, this unit cultivates informed, justice-minded youth ready to take meaningful action in their schools and communities.
