Learning Goals:

Learners will:

  • review different types of activism
  • know about a specific activist
  • show their best attempt at determining the central idea
  • research and collect information about the influence and impact of activists
  • create individual PowerPoint presentations about an activist
  • support partners and classmates in editing a clear and concise presentation.
  • present individual PowerPoints to small groups

Learners will do this by:

  • answering questions based on different types of activism in images
  • using reading roles to read a book on epic about their person and take notes using the notes sheet
  • using reading roles to read a nonfiction article and discuss an activist
  • naming and revising central ideas to be accurate and concise
  • reading/watching non-fiction texts and using text structure of a biography to take
  • notes on important details and central ideas.
  • citing sources and incorporating information from non-fiction articles
  • carefully selecting images and phrases that enhance your presentation
  • proofreading the presentation of a peer
