This mini unit can be used to introduce argument writing or as a refresher on the skill. It includes 4 lessons:
- Building Background Knowledge
- Reading for Claims and Evidence
- Writing the Essay
- Argument Action Project
The materials challenge students to think critically and write arguments about topics like affordable housing, police reform, school suspensions, and the shortage of teachers of color.
It is included in the larger unit on the novel, The Hate U Give, but can stand alone as a skill building unit.
