Learning Goals:
Learners will:
- cite and name specific textual evidence that most strongly supports an analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text
- acknowledge new information expressed by others, and, when warranted, qualify or justify their own views in light of the evidence presented
- develop the topic with relevant well-chosen facts, definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other information and examples.
- use precise language and domain specific vocabulary to inform about or explain the topic
Learners will do this by:
- reviewing notes and determining what type of supporting details they have
- reading and annotating another text and taking notes on specific types of supporting details
- discussing notes and types of supporting details in small expert groups focusing on fortifying
- writing a topic sentence related to the solutions with sufficient clarity and context, specific types of supporting details to match and analysis and elaboration
- describing how the evidence connects to the topic sentence and why it matters
- integrating vocabulary into their writing
- explaining ways that past and present movements challenge systems of oppression and celebrate liberation
