- understanding the concepts of colonialism
- watching, reading and taking notes on a Filipino American artist and activist Ruby Ibarra
- writing a topic sentence related to a choice topic based on their research to date
- writing with sufficient clarity and context, specific types of supporting details to match and analysis and elaboration describing how the evidence connects to the topic sentence and why it matters
- integrating vocabulary into their writing
