Students will engage with the stories of resistance and liberation from some of the most overlooked historical figures of color, focusing on women and youth of color.
While this lesson can be taught on its own, it is lesson 10 in a unit called, From Mesopotamia to Minneapolis – Examining the Rule of Law (in development). The unit is focused on evaluating law and order and understanding the harmful legacy of so-called colorblind laws. It is part two of a two-unit series, starting with Human Rights and the Rule of Law in which students learn about the origins of legal systems and the fight for human rights.
