Awards will be announced January 1st, 2023. Prompt Tells us about a time you’ve broken the rules and why you did it. Racist, unjust systems can’t be changed by following the rules, so in your essay, tell us about a time you pushed back on the system by engaging in civil disobedience. How did your actions fight for justice? How did your actions help your communities? How did the experience affect you as a person? Did you change? If so, how? If not, why? All submissions should be between 500 and 700 words. Essays awarded scholarships will be featured on our blog. Qualifications Youth Scholarship candidates must be students attending a school in Washington State and be currently enrolled in grades 5-12. Selection Guidelines Submissions will be assessed on content, not writing mechanics. Submissions will be accepted in any language.
