SUMMARY:June Member Appreciation: Tide Pool Walk with Alma Ramiro Alonzo
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate our WAESN community\, we invite our members to join us on June 13th (8:45 AM orientation\, 9:00 AM walk) for a morning of fresh air and coastal discovery at Golden Gardens Park in Seattle! \nREGISTER NOW \nWe are thrilled to be guided by Alma Ramiro Alonzo\, a local artist\, educator\, and 20+ year PNW resident with a lifelong passion for nature journaling and coastal foraging. \nCome and explore the intertidal zone\, the area of the beach that plays “peek-a-boo” during the changes in the tides. The intertidal zone is a vital marine ecosystem populated by many fascinating organisms like sea stars\, clams\, crabs\, sea cucumbers\, the electric Thick-horned nudibranch\, comical sea lemon\, and awe-inspiring moon snail. \nOur exploration will begin at the nearshore\, with a brief orientation covering beach etiquette\, safety\, and\, in broad terms\, the beach’s ecological significance and cultural history.  The first hour is a guided exploration where we will take our time to discover\, ponder\, identify\, and appreciate some nerdy facts about the organisms that interest us.  The second hour is an invitation to explore freely\, while your guide remains available if you have questions. \nThroughout\, we will practice exploring with kindness\, empathy\, and wonder. \nCheck out her Instagram for more information: @alma_ramiro_alonzo_art \nSpace is limited\, so please register today to save your spot and let us celebrate the amazing community you help build! \nWhere:  \nGolden Gardens Park (near the bathhouse) \n8498 Seaview Pl NW \nSeattle\, WA 98117 \nWhen: \nJune 13\, 2026 \nCheck-in time and orientation at 8:45am sharp or we miss the tide pools! \nWhat: \nCheck the weather and dress appropriately with nonslip shoes. We will also send updates closer to the event. \nBring your camera\, your watercolors\, your chalk and pencils\, whatever you need or want to record nature’s lessons. \nCost: \nK–12 students (ages 0-18) & Sustaining Members (monthly donors to WAESN) are free! \nCollege & University students register for $15. \nGeneral registration is $25. \nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:Seattle Education Forum: Report Card
DESCRIPTION:WAESN will be tabling at this event\, so come by and say hello! \nREGISTER NOW \nA free\, community-led gathering designed to bring families\, students\, and neighbors into authentic conversation face to face with candidates \n\n\n\nLast October\, we brought candidates into the halls of Rainier Beach High School to reconnect with students\, families\, and schools\, reminding them that education must remain central to their leadership and platform. Now\, nearly a full school year after the election\, we’re continuing the conversation\, this time in community spaces where families and neighbors can gather face-to-face with those same decision makers. \nThe Seattle Education Forum: Report Card is not a traditional panel or town hall. It is an interactive\, community-centered event designed to create space for honest dialogue\, transparency\, and shared accountability between young people\, families and the leaders shaping education policy and investment in our city and state. \nA year into leadership\, it’s time for a check-in: What have our leaders learned from community feedback? What progress has been made? What challenges remain? And what grade would our community give them so far? \nJoin families\, students\, educators\, and community members for candid conversations with elected and appointed leaders about the future of our education system. You’ll learn who makes key decisions affecting schools\, inform leaders where to go next\, and how we can advocate\, collaborate\, and hold leaders accountable to the promises made to students and families. \nThis free\, family-friendly gathering is designed to share power\, strengthen partnerships\, and move forward the progress our students and schools deserve. As the city’s first public education-focused forum since the election\, the event will also celebrate the end of the school year\, graduations\, and the collective work of supporting young people in Seattle. \nConfirmed participation includes leaders from: \n\nSeattle Mayor Katie Wilson\nSeattle Public Schools Board of Directors\nSeattle City Council Members\nState legislators representing Seattle communities\n\nYou’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how decisions are made\, where progress is happening\, and how your voice can continue shaping the future of education in Seattle. \nThis event is organized by the Southeast Seattle Education Coalition\, Alliance for Education\, Black Education Strategy Roundtable\, and the League of Education Voters. \nQuestions? Contact Hong\, SESEC marketing and communications coordinator\, at hong@sesecwa.org. \nREGISTER NOW
