Job Title: Youth Activist Academy Facilitator

Division: Youth Engagement

Status: Limited Contract

Compensation: $1,000.00

Job Description:

The Youth Activist Academy Facilitator will provide instruction during the week of July 12th – 16th for youth ages 12-16. We are looking for instructors with experience practicing or teaching one or more of the following concepts and strategies:

  • different types of activism
  • create professional development for educators
  • understand, analyze, and write policy and legislation
  • interrogate, challenge, and create ethnic studies curriculum
  • conflict resolution and restorative justice
  • practicing self-care and radical self-love
  • developing and facilitating youth organizations

Facilitators will meet with WAESN members during the last week of June to plan, prep, and review the expectations for the Academy for 1-2 half days. Facilitators will be expected to prepare all learning materials and activities in collaboration with WAESN members. BIPOC, queer, and trans applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. 

Work Experience Requirements:

  • At least 1 year working with youth
  • Must have experience in at least 1 concepts or strategy detailed in the job description 
  • Must be 16 years old or over; if under 18, you must have a work permit
  • Must complete a background check (hiring decisions will be made on a case by case basis)

Other Requirements:

  • Must demonstrate practice of being a critical, anti-racist practitioner
  • Must be available mornings and afternoons, Monday through Friday
  • Experience with Google products, such as Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Calendar, and Gmail
  • Must be skilled at facilitating via Zoom
  • General tech skills, including use of virtual collaboration tools such as Padlet and Poll Everywhere
  • Must be willing to work outside in the central Seattle region

Work Experience Preferred:

  • community/union organizing
  • non-profit experience
